Verbatim is a free Chrome extension for designers and developers who want the exact design of a website, not a guess at it. Press Alt+Shift+P on any page, point at an element and copy its real CSS: the rules that actually matched, in cascade order, with hover and focus states, breakpoints, @layer order and design tokens intact. Most CSS copy tools dump getComputedStyle, which flattens all of that away.
Export it as authored CSS, as Tailwind v3 or v4 classes, or as a React, Vue, Svelte, Astro or Angular component. Press D for the whole design system: the palette ordered by how much of the screen each colour covers, the type scale, spacing, radii, shadows and breakpoints, exported as a Tailwind @theme block, CSS variables or W3C design tokens. There are thirteen tools in all, including a font identifier, a colour picker that works inside photos, an asset zip, exact element screenshots and a whole-site design prompt. It works on pages behind a login too, because it runs in the page you are already looking at.
For AI coding agents, the verbatim-mcp server gives Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf and VS Code nine tools on the same engine. Your agent can pull a buildable design brief or a component's code, and verify_extraction renders what it copied and diffs it against the live page, so it checks its own work.
The extension is free forever, with no account, no analytics and no telemetry. The MCP server is free for 24 hours, then a one-time $29 key with no subscription.

How do I copy CSS from a website with Verbatim?
Install the Chrome extension, open any site and press Alt+Shift+P. Hover to outline an element, click to lock it, and copy its CSS as authored CSS, Tailwind classes, a framework component or a written brief for an AI agent. It is free and needs no account.
Why is the CSS more accurate than other extensions?
Most tools read getComputedStyle and dump the result. Verbatim resolves the cascade instead: the rules that matched with their original selectors, @layer precedence, hover and focus states, media queries that are not currently active, and var() as both the token name and the literal value.
Can it convert a website's CSS to Tailwind?
Yes, Tailwind v3 or v4, with states as modifiers and breakpoints as prefixes. Colours are never snapped to Tailwind's palette: you get the exact value, or a reference to a generated @theme token.
How does the MCP server work with Cursor and Claude Code?
Run npx -y verbatim-mcp, or add it with claude mcp add verbatim -- npx -y verbatim-mcp. It speaks MCP over stdio, so Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex CLI, Windsurf and VS Code all work, with nine tools including get_design_prompt, get_design_context and verify_extraction.

No. There is no account, no analytics and no telemetry. The only outbound requests are stylesheet refetches to the origin that served them, loopback to the Verbatim server on your own machine, and your own AI provider if you choose to add a key.
